      Hi there,

Definately dont go into science if money is the most important thing to you. Don’t get me wrong….we’re not ‘poor’ – my salary means that i can pay my mortgage, run a car, go on holiday each summer etc etc. But im never going to be rich and if i really wanted to be rich but didnt care about enjoying my job… then id have become a lawyer or accountant.

No, im a scientist because i love science and love my job. I also like working in the unversity environment where everything is quite relaxed, rather than in a big company where things get stressy!

Right now I’m well paid but there was a time when I chose science over another job that was better paid. I think it’s most important to do something you’re interested in. You can always by value tims of beans if you’re happy but posh beans won’t make you happy if you hate work.

Honestly, it would be wrong of me to say i didn’t work for money – i do work for money, but i chose the career i do for the love of science. Having said that, like greg said, science is not the most highly paid job in the world so i’m never going to be rolling in it – but it is importnat for me to work in something i enjoy, money is not as important to me as enjoying the job

I do my job because I love it! Other jobs may pay more, but I would really not enjoy them: and as you have to do it eveyday I think that would make me really miserable. What is the point of having lots of money and being bored and miserable all the time!
