      Hi there,
Its a good question, with an odd answer… am a ‘cell biologist’ at heart — my favourite thing is staring down the microscope at cells. The egg is one big beautiful, and very unusual cell…. and thats how i got interested in it. Once you start reading about eggs you realise that understanding them is very important for understandin infertility. But i actually got into eggs just because they are such a beautiful cell (i know that sounds waaay geeky!)

showlett – i find it interesting how closely they “talk” with the cells around them while they are growing – i also think its amazing how they are fertilised at all – there are so many things that could go wrong – the egg and sperm have to meet at the right time, they have to connect in the right way etc etc and then how the whole body grows from 2 single cells fusing is mind-boggling!
