I like the fact that when i finish a set of experiments, and get them published in a science journal, that people in labs like ours from all around the world will read it. Also, I love the fact that no one has ever dont the experiment im about to do before… and I’ll be the first to know the answer…

      Hi all!
Oh , hmmmmmm! The first thing that springs to mind is the people that i work with! In all the places i have worked in science, i have worked with fantastic people, made great friends and had a great laugh with them. I think when working in science, things don’t always go right (and in my case, most often go wrong) but all the other people working there have gone through the same thing so are always willing to help you out and share their knowledge and experience – it makes for a very tight working partnership which is a great environment to work in.
In terms of actually carrying out science, the best thing about it is if you have a question you want answering and no one else in the department has dealt with it, so you go and think about it and formulate your own way of trying to answer it. You work it all out and plan it and then you actually carry it out and…wonder of wonders, it actually works and gives you the answers you need and….OMG, the answer you were expecting! Now thats a GREAT feeling!!

Untangling the mess and finding the structures and relationships underneath. I thnk science is a bit like unravelling messed up string or tidying a messy drawer. At the beginning it’s all just a big heap of confusion but if you are methodical and logical you can undo the knots or sort out the contents of the drawer, ditch the rubbish and Hey Presto – a ball of string you can do something with or a drawer full of useful things that you can use to do whatever.

Finding out something new that no one has ever known before. You can then publish this in a journal (a magazine for scientists all over the world).
