• Question: What is the risk of a woman miscarrying when she undergoes IVF treatment?

      The risk of miscarriage with ivf is the same as a natural pregnancy which is a 10-15% chance. The chance of miscarriage does increase as the woman gets older.

      It’s slightly more than usual but the studies aren’t clear on this and it could be because IVF mothers tend to be older and older women tend to miscarry more often. Theoretically it should be less likely because an embryologist can choose the best embryo to put back – assuming ther is a good one to choose.

      Good question –
      I don’t actually know the answer – i think the success of IVF overall is about 30-50%, and i’m not sure if miscarrying is anymore likely in IVF pregnancies or not – one of the other scientists like Claire might be better to answer this
