Last time I looked it was about 27% chance each time for the first three cycles but less than that if you need more cycles or are over 38 I’m answering this by texting and I don’t know how to put a link in but if you go to the HFEA web site they have all the up to date stats. Itla not a great chance of success is it? Lots of people are disappointed

Overall about a quarter of ivf cycles result in a live birth of a baby. But it’s not that straightforward – if the parents are older or the ivf cycle uses frozen embryos for example the likelihood of success is lower. But if you are lower or it’s your first few cycles it should be higher. It also depends on the reason you need ivf. compared to a lot of medical treatments 1 in 4 success rate is v low. Imagine if you were ill and the doctors said there was only a 1 in 4 chance of the treatment curing you – that might not sound very high. Jo

depends where. Different clinics are better than others (there are league tables!!). Its really hard to say which are better, because different clinics use different criteria to select patients — for example, some private clinics wont treat women over a certain age, because they think the chance of success is so low — and obviously tat clinic then ends up higher up the league table than others. Also, different clinics use different technioques.

But… all this aside… the ‘best’ clinics tend to get 40-50% success (baby born) per IVF attempt
