      Hi Jessica
Oh my gosh, there are so so many jobs in science – what sort of things do you like about science – do you like carrying out experiments, or do you prefer reading about science and learning that way? Which sciences to you prefer or do you like all of them? Do you prefer working by yourself or with lots of other people? Do you like working with people or with animals better? These are all questions that can help you decide which route in science to take.
GCSE’s that would help would obviously be the sciences, but a lot of jobs now (not just sciences) want a good grade in maths and english too.
The most imortant thing is to get experience – try to organise work experience at different places – not only will this give you a better idea of the type of job in science you are best suited to, but it will also look great on your CV

For all jobs it is good to get A-C in maths, english and science. This means you could do some science A levels. You could then work as a lab based scientist perhaps in a hospital measuring things in samples. I’d recommend working in a university lab then you can do experiments and teach students.

      Hi jessicab,
We thought it was a hoot too! My guess is that if you like science you’ll like anything that involves solving puzzles. Research is obviously an option, but really you can do anything that needs logical thought. You could plan things like road systems or run big chemical plants that make stuff, the world is your oyster really. In terms of exams I suppose the sciences, maths and English. There’s loads you can do with science, I imagine that you have someone at school who does careers advice and it might be best to talk to them. You could try asking your science teachers what their science friends from uni are doing now 🙂

I love my job because I am always learning new things and I get to help lots of people. But everyone is different. You need te to work out what suits you best. I do biology at uni and then did a phd as I thought I wanted to be a research scientist in a lab, but realized that wasn’t for me. So I switched to what I do now. So I would say keep your options open at the moment. if you like science it would be good to fo at least 2 or even 3 science gcses to give you more choices at a level. Hope that helps. Jo
